Should Drunk Driving Penalties be Made Tougher? Pennsylvania Car Accident

Comments Off

Do you think Pennsylvania and other states should make drunk driving penalties even tougher, especially when a person is killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver? Do you think drunk driving laws in are already sufficient? The Waynesboro Record Herald is reporting about such an accident.

A Fairfield woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash along U.S. 30 in Franklin Township, Adams County, at 9:30 p.m. Friday when her 2005 Suzuki Forenza was struck head-on by a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Brandon Zirk, 27, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania State Police reported. Zirk suffered severe injuries in the crash, and was listed in stable condition in York Hospital this morning. Zirk was traveling west on U.S. 30 when he crossed over the double-yellow line and struck a 2002 Kia driven by Roger Keefer, 79, of New Oxford, police said. After hitting Keefer's Kia, Zirk's Ford Explorer continued going west in the eastbound lane when it struck the Suzuki driven by Angela Rigby, 33, of Fairfield.

Rigby was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police said alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. Zirk was taken to Gettysburg Hospital and then transferred to York Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said. Keefer was taken to Gettysburg Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police said Rigby and Keefer were not wearing seatbelts. U.S. 30 was closed for about five hours Friday night while police investigated the crash
