Always be careful and drive with extra caution in a construction zone. Always anticipate anything, even the unexpected and watch.

According to police and published reports from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a woman was struck and killed on October 13, 2011 while exiting her vehicle on Route 30 after being involved in a separate accident.

The accident occured in Hellam Tounwship on eastbound Route 30 over the Susquehanna River where traffic was limited to the left lane because of construction work. Jackie Lease was stopped in the left lane just east of the Cool Springs Road overpass when her vehicle was involved in an accident with Helen Hammes’ car. Hammes then got out of her vehicle to speak to Lease. At that point, an eastbound pickup truck approached the crash scene and swerved to the left, onto the median, in an attempt to avoid striking the two vehicles.

The truck, however, struck Hammes, then broadsided the Lease vehicle breaking Lease’s ankle. Hammes was killed by blunt force trauma in the accident.

At what point do we continue to let reckless drivers keep their license? Paying a fine has obviously not taught this young man a lesson.

    1 75 § 3714 §§ A S Careless Driving 04/05/2011 Guilty.

    1 75 § 4703 §§ A S Operat Veh W/O Valid Inspect 01/02/2011 Guilty.

This is the record of the individual that hit Helen Hammes and killed her. He hit her and threw her 30 feet and killed her(she was not a small woman), side swiped another car and STILL did not stop for another 300 yards in the grassy median. This sounds to me like he was not only driving way too fast, but was also not paying attention to the road at all.

At construction sites there remain a lot of freely laying objects. Overlooking them causes accidents, most often.
