Children of retired or disabled parents may be entitled to Social Security benefits. The Social Security law requires that the child must be under 18; or between the ages of 18 and 19 and a full time student; or 18 or over and suffering from a medical disability that began before age 22. Children must be dependant which means that they are living with the parent or the parent is providing at least one half of the child’s ordinary living costs
